RetailTRAK™ August 2009 - Running Specialty Retail Sales

Total running industry retail dollar sales were $69M in August 2009, up 9% from August 2008.

Both footwear and accessories saw dollar sales increase 10% from last August, while apparel continued to decline. All apparel sales fell 3% for the period; however, key sportswear and base layer categories gained for the period.

Compared to August 2008 here are the category changes in dollar sales:

  • All Footwear: +10% 
  • Road Running Shoes +10%

- Motion Control Shoes -5%
- Stability Shoes +6%
- Neutral/Cushion Shoes +24%
- Lightweight Shoes -10%

  • All Apparel -3%
  • Sportswear -6%
  • All Accessories +10%
